Led by Culture Liverpool and in a city with a strong visual arts offer second only to London nationally, the ‘Visual Arts’ programme for schools and educational settings linked tradition and culture from the UK, Ukraine and other Eurovision countries.
Taking inspiration from the Ukrainian tradition of egg painting called pysanka, the programme used the egg as a symbol of hope and new beginnings.
There were various ‘egg-citing’ projects taking place in the run up to the Eurovision Song Contest including the creation of a specially commissioned schools resource pack, which provided cultural information on the pysanka tradition and the link to Ukraine and Europe. The ‘eggs-traordinary’ programme also saw large egg sculptures appear in Liverpool ONE and saw schools across the Liverpool City Region creating their own ‘eggs-hibitions’ and egg hunts.
