LJMU are looking to appoint a fulltime, funded PhD researcher to work on MusicFutures, an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded Creative Cluster programme supporting growth and innovation at the intersection of music, creativity, and technology.
The PhD will contribute to research in the field of sustainability of live music events to promote green practices, measure and reduce carbon footprints (by proposing an adapted carbon calculator), and setting industry-wide sustainability standards. This research will propose a certification and training programme for the UK music sector and consider any challenges the roll out of this might encounter. This research will build upon Liverpool’s status as the first UN Accelerator City, one pillar of which is focused upon sustainable live events.
The successful candidate may have a background in climate and sustainability studies / climate and sustainability management or music and live event management and will be interested in climate change, music and live events. They will be familiar with the concept of carbon calculation and be committed to carbon reduction. They will have the following skillsets and capabilities; independent thinker, able to work independently and as part of a team, with an understanding of systems thinking. The candidate should be comfortable working across disciplines, and with external stakeholders. Experience in the use of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods is desirable.

We are seeking PhD applicants with a minimum of a 2.1 degree. You should have a commitment and strong interest in interdisciplinary research, be motivated and be prepared to work independently. An MA or MSc in a relevant subject area would be preferable. Full training will be given to the successful candidate.
