Photosynthesis Ballet: Florescentia. Florescentia, from the Latin word for ‘blossoming’, is inspired by the phenomenal natural transformations found in the natural biology of plant life. Incorporating both movement, sound and light, the work explores the ephemerality of life in an ever and rapidly changing state.
Choreographing linear rotation through motor driven movement, polypropylene profiles are manipulated, changing form on multiple axis to create the illusion of a blossoming and retracting movement. The accompanying soundscape audibly illustrates the blending relationship between the mechanical and the natural, immersing the audience within the experience. The work functions as a public seating arrangement, inviting the audience to move around and below the moving forms, experiencing the movement from all angles. Blended hues of colour create gradients through the dancing form, partnering colours representing the life cycle of the blossoming form
