A Way To The Stars Art Workshop

Children’s book illustrator, Gill Smith invites young artists of all abilities and their families to fly skyward into the world of their imaginations. She will reveal the techniques for her illustrations in A Way To The Stars, a picture book written by the wonderful writer, David Almond. Like the characters in the book, you can create your own magical starscape, using exciting materials such as watercolour, marbling inks, stencils and collage. It might get messy – but getting messy is the way we get to the stars, so be sure to wear your oldest clothes! This is a neuro divergent friendly workshop and children are invited to create together with their adults. Please let us know in advance if there are additional needs we can better accommodate.

Limited places. Pre-booking required. Suitable for children aged 6-12 years.

Saturday 22 March, Spellow Library | 1.30pm – 3.30pm | Reserve your free place

Running alongside this we have a special school and library programme co-ordinated by the Liverpool Learning Partnership in over five schools which helps introduce some children to a library for the very first time. Celebrating World Book Day this gives children the opportunity to hear storytelling or see a performance, including poetry artists such as Leve Tafari, comic book drawing, illustration, rap & Latin American music and storytelling.

Other World Book Day activities includes seeing Gill Smith, Children’s book illustrator return to Spellow Community Hub & Library to create a new image in the windows in addition to a family workshop around one of the books she has illustrated, ‘Away to the Stars’, at the end of the month.
