Liverpool has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading destinations for major cultural and sporting events. From international celebrations to city-wide festivals, the city has built a global reputation for creating unforgettable experiences that bring people together.
With this legacy in mind, we’re delighted to be partnering with Culture Liverpool to deliver The Big Events Challenge 2026, an exciting opportunity that invites University of Liverpool students to help shape the future of inclusive and accessible events in the city.
The challenge has been designed to give students a hands-on experience of the real-world thinking behind major city events. Over two days, students will work collaboratively in teams to explore how Liverpool can continue to deliver world-class events that are welcoming, accessible and inclusive for everyone.
By working directly with a brief inspired by real industry challenges, students will have the opportunity to contribute fresh ideas that could influence the way events are planned and experienced across the city.
Across the two-day challenge, students will take part in collaborative workshops and idea development sessions designed to help them shape creative and practical solutions. Students will receive guidance and support from business advisors throughout the process as they refine their ideas and develop their proposals. The challenge will culminate in a showcase event at St George’s Hall, where teams will pitch their concepts to a panel of judges.
The Big Events Challenge offers far more than just a competition. It’s a chance for students to work on a meaningful initiative informed by real-world issues such as sustainability, accessibility and inclusivity in large-scale events.
We’re incredibly excited to be working alongside Culture Liverpool to bring this opportunity to life. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to empowering the next generation of talent and ensuring Liverpool continues to lead the way in delivering vibrant, inclusive and innovative events.
We can’t wait to see the ideas, energy and creativity that students will bring to The Big Events Challenge 2026!
