Metal couldn’t wave goodbye to 2025 without looking back in awe at all that was achieved throughout the course of Picton Play, a two-year community arts project embedded in the nearby neighbourhood of Picton. We gleaned such a great deal from their surrounding area and its inhabitants, finding artistry and hidden creativity in every corner we looked. Among the many events, partnerships, dinners and conversations, we want to highlight two projects we loved this year.
> Make Time for Love – A Celebration of Wavertree and Picton
From meeting and eating with our citizens advisory group, to greeting the artist writers, to the Make Time For Love celebration day and week of festivities that followed, we’re so grateful for all that was achieved leading up to that great big Saturday in September.
Unforgettable highlight: having 12,000 copies of the Stories, Mystery and Love book delivered to every home in the L15 postcode! Endless appreciation to our Student Associates, residency and workshop artists, guest producers, and of course to YARA + DAVINA for bringing the party and leading the finale. Commissioned by Culture Liverpool and supported by Arts Council England, Liverpool City Council, the University of Liverpool and Art Fund.
> Contains Joy – Exploring Recycling with Liverpool Primary Schools
We ran a Recycling Residency with artists Andrea Ku, Niloo Sharifi, and Ecosystem2, who visited three primary schools near to our site. Each interpreted the memorable environmental education theme by bringing fun, creativity, and accessibility to learning around climate change for the under 12s – truly unforgettable with an unique, engaged impact on all those who took part.
