Liverpool ONE has announced plans to launch a new challenge that will see schools across the region compete in a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style pitch.

The ‘Made in Liverpool’ challenge will see students take part in a series of immersive workshops looking at the future of retail and how retail destinations can better serve their communities.

The hands-on sessions will be designed to mirror real-world industry processes, giving them the chance to explore creative placemaking, community and customer insights and environmental sustainability, whilst learning about careers in retail and property.

Students will then take part in a live pitch, presenting their concepts to a judging panel of experts before one is crowned the local winner, which will go through to the national semi-finals, and if successful, a grand final.

The annual school challenge, which starts in 2027 and will run for three years, is delivered by Liverpool ONE and their parent company Landsec as part of its social impact programme, Landsec Futures, and social enterprise, Ahead Partnership.

Brendan Hattam, Centre Director at Liverpool ONE, said:

“There’s so much talent here in Liverpool and this new initiative is a fantastic way of giving young people access to experts, experiences and insight to help inspire the young minds of tomorrow, and encourage them to reflect and consider how they can help enhance Liverpool even further in the future.

“Supporting the city’s up-and-coming talent is a huge part of what we do at Liverpool ONE and the new ‘Made in Liverpool’ challenge will help highlight the powerful role young people can play in shaping the future of retail. We can’t wait to hear their exciting ideas and fresh new perspectives.”

Andy Clarke, Partnerships Director at Ahead Partnership, said:

“Our partnership with Liverpool ONE will help provide hands-on learning experiences and access to business leaders, role models and mentors. These partnerships are vital to broaden access and opportunity for young people into good jobs across growing sectors.”
