STANDING FIRM IN POWER AND PRIDE
Liverpool has long been a city where Black history, culture, and creativity thrive – not just in October, but all year round. For Black History Month 2025, a dynamic partnership of artists, heritage groups, cultural institutions and community activists have once again come together to create a powerful and inspiring programme that reflects this year’s national theme of ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’.
This theme is a tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress that defines the Black community across the globe. It highlights the profound contributions of Black leaders, activists, pioneers, and creatives – past and present – while also looking to the future with a message of unity, empowerment, and celebration.
Power represents leadership, influence, and the capacity to drive change – from those who have led civil rights movements to those breaking new ground in business, education, the arts, and beyond.
Pride reflects identity, heritage, and the celebration of Black excellence through music, art, food, storytelling, and intergenerational wisdom. It is the heartbeat of Black communities worldwide.
In Liverpool, Black History Month is a platform that shines a light on Black creativity, heritage, and achievement – and the incredible work happening across the city every day. This year’s programme brings together an exciting mix of events, exhibitions, performances, discussions, and community gatherings, all designed to connect, educate, and inspire.
From new commissions made possible through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund including African Routes, Untold Stories of an African Queen and More Than Words to returning favourites like WoWFest and BlackFest, the city is alive with energy and expression.
Our dedicated webpage brings all of this year’s events into one easy-to-navigate space, so you can explore what’s happening throughout October and beyond. Whether you’re attending a panel discussion, joining a dance workshop, visiting a heritage site, or supporting a local artist, there are countless ways to get involved.
Black History Month Liverpool 2025 isn’t just a moment – it’s part of a movement. One that honours the past, celebrates the present, and builds a future grounded in power, pride, and shared purpose.
