On Saturday 25 January, the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association, Pagoda Arts and award-winning dance company Movema will lead a parade through the city centre, joined by members of the Chinese community and young people from In Harmony and the Shanghai Children’s Palace Orchestras.
Incorporating a street theatre piece with colourful Beijing opera-style costumes and stilt walkers, the parade will start at midday on Church Street, leading on to Paradise Street in Liverpool ONE before heading to the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool.
Liverpool ONE
Beautiful Chinese lanterns will be on display on Paradise Street and College Lane and the retail area will be lit up red in honour of the Lunar New Year celebrations.
Shops, bars and restaurants will also be joining in the festivities with exclusive Lunar New Year gift ideas and fantastic events.
Newly commissioned by Liverpool ONE and Culture Liverpool for the ‘Year of the Wood Snake’, artist Sarah Gallagher of Twigtwisters, has created a sssspectacular willow snake sculpture which will take pride of place on Thomas Steers Way throughout the festivities. Situated in front of the infamous Liverpool letters (which have also been updated with Lunar New Year artwork), this is another great place to take selfies! Royal Albert Dock Liverpool
This year, the city’s Lunar New Year plans are bringing celebrations to Liverpool’s world-famous waterfront. With a programme of events set to amaze visitors, make the most of your day at the dock.
Art Workshops
This year Royal Albert Dock Liverpool will host a series of art workshops located in Anchor Courtyard on Saturday 1 February to Sunday 2 February, during the hours of 12pm – 5pm. A lovely experience for all the family, come along, take part for free and take away you Chinese New Year creations.
Lunar New Year Heart Installation
Created especially for this years festivities this new commission by artist Design Laser Play can be found at the entrance of Anchor Courtyard and celebrates the theme of ‘The Year of the Snake’.
