Liverpool Town Hall will unveil ‘Our Beating Heart’, a striking semi-permanent art installation, created by Studio Vertigo.
On this day in 1964, The Beatles stood on the Town Hall balcony as more than 200,000 people welcomed them home: a powerful display of love and belonging that defined Liverpool’s spirit. Our Beating Heart brings that emotion back to life, shining with warmth, welcome and connection from the very same place.
First seen during the 2023 River of Light festival, the sculpture quickly became one of its most popular installations, with light reflecting across Castle Street and transforming the surrounding architecture into a vibrant, shared experience.
Its arrival also supports the Town Hall’s role in celebrations. Each year, hundreds of couples choose Liverpool Town Hall for their wedding ceremony. The balcony will now offer a truly iconic photo moment, framed by Castle Street, surrounded by friends, family, history and glittering light.
The new installation also supports ambitions to enhance the Castle Street public realm, with plans to consult on a more seamless, pedestrian-friendly space connecting Town Hall to the street below, creating a destination to rival great civic spaces such as La Rambla and Strøget in Copenhagen.
